Memory

Nan’s button box, it was the draw under the treadle singer sewing machine. Finally 15 years on I have set the contents out and in a process of reconstruction.I am recreating the draw with tiny books, each will have notes by my family members or snippets of lovely memory of the items. Buttons from the GPO, Navy Ark Royal brass,  Victoriana jet,  mother of pearl shirt buttons, hat and nappy pins, toy soldiers and a dolls house coin from the Nuremburg mint. Spangle glasses and bone. A veritable wealth of history, I wish I could do more to cherish and celebrate my Nan’s unconditional generosity of care for so many generations.
Mary Barlett’s Bookbindery at Dartington is the creative place.  Here is Mary setting typeset at her Unicorn Press, also Richard Shimmel making his beautiful sketchbooks.
